Personalized diabetes care in Little Rock, Arkansas

Type 2 Diabetes and Remission

At Elite EndoMet, we focus on blood sugar control, appropriate weight management, and protecting your heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. For suitable patients, we also work toward reducing medication burden and achieving Type 2 diabetes remission. We have more than 10 years’ experience helping patients pursue diabetes remission or reversal after weight loss and sustainable changes to meal plans and lifestyle.

Care overview

Understand what is happening in your body

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body becomes less responsive to insulin—called insulin resistance—and the pancreas cannot make enough insulin to keep blood sugar in a healthy range. We explain how these processes relate to your diabetes and A1C results, and how nutrition, activity, weight management, and medications can help.

We work to restore a healthier balance between insulin demand and insulin supply while using as little medication as is safely appropriate.

What to expect

A treatment plan based on your diabetes

Your plan is built around your glucose patterns, diagnosis, complications, treatment priorities, and long-term health.

  1. Review your diabetes patterns

We review your glucose patterns, medications, complications, and goals. Treatment decisions consider current evidence, heart and kidney health, side effects, cost, and your preferences.

  2. Confirm the diabetes type

When diabetes type is uncertain, targeted testing may help clarify the diagnosis. C-peptide testing can assess insulin production, while antibody testing such as GAD, IA-2, and ZnT8 may identify autoimmune diabetes. Some adults initially diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes have slowly progressive autoimmune diabetes, often called LADA. These results can change whether reducing insulin is appropriate.

  3. Adjust treatment safely

For some people with Type 2 diabetes, improved insulin sensitivity and sustained weight loss allow insulin doses to decrease or insulin to be stopped under supervision. Others continue to need insulin. Our goal is the safest and most effective treatment for you.

A careful, evidence-based goal

What diabetes remission means

Remission generally means an A1C below 6.5% maintained for at least three months without glucose-lowering medication. It is possible for some people with Type 2 diabetes, but cannot be guaranteed.

  • Remission is not the same as a cure.
  • Ongoing glucose and A1C monitoring remains necessary.
  • Diabetes can return after remission.
  • Heart, kidney, eye, and nerve complication screening still matters.
